Cold Weather painting

Winter is the time of year that we must be very careful with regards to painting outside. Although a lot of the new paints are formulated to be used down to 35 degrees, the substrate and temperature must remain above 35 degrees for the paint to cure out properly. Even if you apply the paint when it is fairly warm (above 40 or 50 degrees) if it drops below freezing after dark or even worse down into the 20's or teens you will freeze the paint and ruin the curing process. This will not only void the warranty on your paint but it will also severely shorten the life span of the paint job. It will also most likely cause the paint to fail early and begin to peel as soon as the weather warms up.

The same caution we use with painting on the exterior in colder weather should also be applied to caulking in colder weather. Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have at Joe@LajoieInc.com

An extremely difficult repair. The siding was rotten behind the meter box. We are replacing all of the siding with "Hardy Plank" cement fiber board.

Working on Tony's house. Window was rotted so bad we had to fabricate part of the window before we could re-trim.
